2019 Hampton Roads Brewers Cup



Is a competition among five area homebrew clubs, Colonial Ale Smiths & Keggers (CASK), Hampton Roads Brewing & Tasting Society (HRB&TS), Seven City Brewers (7CB), Smithfield Hop and Malt Society (HAMS), and (VPH) Virginia Peninsula Homebrewers to promote the sharing of knowledge and honing of skill in the home brewing community.

Fill out the enter form and register online for the competition.




Entry Eligibility

  • Contest is open only to amateur home brewers that are active members in good standing of a participating club. Professional brewers, even if club members, are not eligible.

  • Only one entry permitted per person per competition unless otherwise noted. Individuals may also enter as part of a team.

Entry Registration

  • Register your entry by completing the online entry registration form.

  • Only one entry allowed per person, per club. In the case of multiple entries by a person, judges will select one of the entries at random for official judging.

Hampton Roads Brewers Cup



Hi everyone:


1) This year we are having four competitions with one specialty competition. Registration will open at 12:01 AM on the first day of its respective month, and close 3 days prior to the judging date unless otherwise specified.

2) Printable bottle labels now include Special Entry Instructions where appropriate.

3) If dropping off, bottles must be delivered to the locations by 1 PM Saturday for a Wednesday judging and by 5 PM Wednesday for a Saturday judging. This will allow us to verify all entries prior to the judging date.

3) For those not near a drop-off location, you may also give the bottles to your club officers who regularly attend the judging, and they can verify with me by that same Saturday.


Finally, after a lot of competitor’s suggestions, keeping in mind what’s seasonal, and looking for new challenges, I present the 2019 schedule.

Luck O’ The Irish 2019-01

March 20, 2019 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm


2019 Competition #1 – What better way to celebrate the month of March than with fine Irish beers. Registration opens March 1st and closes on March 17th. Brew something Irish and you’ll be sure to be the everyone’s lucky charm this month.

Specialty Competitions

June 1, 2019- June 30, 2019 | 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm


In support of American Homebrewers Association’s Big Brew Day, we are putting together a specialty competition outside the regular HRBC points competitions.  There will be some nifty prizes for this one (though no Brewers’ Cup points).


Actual brewing will be done on AHA’s Big Brew Day (traditionally the first Saturday in May) and judging will be done in June.

Tis the Saison for Wheat 2019-02

May 18, 2019 – May 25, 2019 | 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm


2019 Competition #2 – Spring, Summer, and those fantastic wheat(ish) beers are sure quench the thirst of even the most rugged yard-worker.  Entry opens May 1st and judging will be held either between May 18th or May 25th dependent upon location.

10A Wheat


(We are always looking for locations outside of Virginia Beach so, if your club knows of a venue willing to host near you, drop us a line and let us know.)




Prost!  2019-03

September 21, 2019 | 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm


2019 Competition #3 – Back by popular demand are the German Festbiers.  These malty, delicious German-style beers are getting you prepared for the coming month of Octoberfest!  Entry opens September 1st, judging will be held either September 14th or September 21st depending on location.

4B. Festbier (Octoberfest)

6A. Märzen

Winter Wonder Beers 2019-04

November 16, 2019 | 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm


2019 Competition #4 – The holidays are almost upon us so, time for those unique, spiced, herbalicious, holiday beers.  Entry opens November 1st and judging will take place between November 16th and November 23rd depending on location.


Categories include:

30A. Spice/Herb/Vegetable (SHV) Beer

30C. Winter (Holiday) Seasonal Beer
